Q?rius Scanning Electron Microscope Internship

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Q?rius is an interactive science education space where teens are invited to discover science and the natural world. As a Q?rius Intern, you will have the opportunity to work with our team in the advancement of collections-based activities. Interns will be interacting with visitors and volunteers on the floor, working with our hands-on collection of over 6,000 specimen, and developing sustainable programming for future use in Q?rius. The Scanning Electron Microscope Intern will refine the current program offerings using the SEM to better include our hands-on collection specimens, and create a training manual for volunteer use of the SEM.

INTERN LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Interns will gain a unique insight into the operations of Q?rius the Coralyn W. Whitney Science Education Center at NMNH. The intern will have the opportunity to work with museum collections, visitors, volunteers and Education Staff to help us better serve the diverse audiences that interact in the informal-learning setting of Q?rius. The SEM Intern will further advance the use of Collection Zone specimens in the facilitation of the Scanning Electron Microscope programming to gain a better understanding of the impact real specimens and technology have on the visitor experience.
