Macrophotography of Marine Snail Shells Internship

DESCRIPTION: Interns will create images of snail specimens, upload the images to the collection database, and prepare/curate the specimens into the Smithsonian collections.

QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with photography and basic knowledge of invertebrate animals is desirable but not required. Excellent hand/eye coordination, attention to detail, good organizational skills, and manual dexterity for manipulating small or fragile specimens, are required. Hours are flexible, but requires a minimum commitment of 8 hours per week.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The intern will gain experience in macrophotography techniques, in the proper handling, arranging and orientating of museum snail specimens, and post-production image adjustment techniques. The intern will become familiar with organizing, sorting and naming conventions of files for uploading to the collection database, KE EMu. The intern will also gain experience in curation techniques of dry and fluid-preserved specimens.
