Internship: Spring Break: Plant DNA Barcode Project Website
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The intern will work with the project manager to update the content (both information and graphics) of the Plant DNA Barcode website within the Smithsonian design guidelines. Working hours will be 9 am – 5pm.
QUALIFICATIONS: We are looking for a highly motivated intern with web design and development skills and with the willingness to learn about museum plant collections and molecular genetic techniques.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Smithsonian’s web design.
- The definition of DNA Barcode, its importance and applications.
- The steps involved in the Plant DNA Barcode Project.
- How to communicate this information to scientists from other disciplines and to the general public.
TIMETABLE:
Monday: Introduction to staff members and to the museum facilities. Review the website and discuss the aspects that need to be updated/improved.
Tuesday: Edit and update information content of the website (text)
Wednesday: Add/update information to the staff profiles. Create files for the web manager to upload to the site.
Thursday: Edit and update images
Friday: Finalize pending tasks. Present the final outcome to the team.
