Biodiversity Conservation Internship

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Want to make an important contribution to the future of biodiversity conservation at the Smithsonian Institution? The intern will research historical and contemporary Smithsonian biodiversity conservation projects and their impacts. Tasks include literature and web search, interviews with scientists and experts, entering data in spreadsheets, and preparing short project summaries that will be available as a web based resource for scientists and the general public. Work location is flexible. Opportunities to meet scientists, attend seminars, and learn about conservation science in one of the largest conservation research communities in the world.

QUALIFICATIONS: Undergraduate, graduate student focused on biodiversity research and conservation. Applicants should have good organizational, communication and writing skills.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The intern will increase their knowledge of conservation science, action and impacts; enhance data management skills; and improve writing ability.

TIMETABLE: Summer 2016. Minimum of 10 weeks starting in May or June; 8-40 hours per week. Quality work may lead to opportunities for participation in other conservation projects.
