Second Hand Rhino Research

Posted on June 3, 2019 by in The OFI Blog

Dr. Maureen Wanjiku Kamau, Veterinary Research Fellow at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s (SCBI) Global Health Program inside of the National Zoological Park (NZP), studies rhinoceroses in Kenya. Conservation efforts have seen steady re-population of this endangered species. One avenue of conservation efforts is through the thorough study of poop. Rhino poop contains many hormones that researchers study to gain insight into reproductive habits and outputs.

Dr. Kamau recently updated her blog with an article about her expierences, which you can read here.
