NMNH Marine Invertebrate Internship

The Invertebrate Zoology Department at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) is pleased to offer a Cataloging Marine Invertebrate Photographs Internship. This opportunity is available to candidates 18 years of age or older and requires 24-40 hours a week for 4 weeks (extension possible).

Description: The Photo Processing Intern will rename and organize specimen photos of marine small invertebrates from NMNH’s field site in Papua New Guinea. These images will then be used to create a catalog of biodiversity that will be distributed to collaborators to help with species identifications.

Learning Objectives: Interns will learn imaging techniques associated with post-production image enhancement techniques using Adobe Photoshop, database management, and increase their knowledge of marine biodiversity and how it is studied.

Qualifications: Attention to detail, ability to follow directions, good organizational skills, basic computer skills, and some familiarity with Adobe Photoshop is desirable.

Start date: January 2018 (Flexible)

End date: June 2018 (Flexible)
