Adventure in Antiquity
University of Windsor M.A. candidate in History Salma Abumeeiz spent the spring of 2017 interning with the Smithsonian Institution Libraries (SIL).
During her time with SIL, Salma was afforded the opportunity to conduct research under the purview of the Smithsonian Libraries Research Annex (SLRA). Through SLRA’s Adopt-a-Book program, Salma familiarized herself with SRLA’s copy of Jules Verne’s 1873 classic, Tour of the World in Eighty Days. The opportunity to conduct research for SRLA allowed Salma to play the part of a detective, if only an iota; learning more about the symbolism of hot air balloons, a long-dead book publisher, and to most importantly come to a newfound sense of understanding concerning the wonderment of books themselves.
You can learn more about Salma and her aforementioned experience in a recent SIL Unbound blogpost she authored here.
