Jaguar Killings on the Rise

Ricardo Moreno, a Research Associate with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and director of the Yaguara Panama Foundation, recently reported to the 20th Congress of the Mesoamerican Society for biology and Conservation that at least 26 jaguars have been killed in this year alone. Between 1989 and 2014 at least 230 have been killed; those killing the jaguars include tour guides and livestock owners.
