Intern Spotlight: Mayela Caro

Mayela Caro, a 2016 Minority Awards/James E. Webb Intern, is spending her summer at the National Museum of American History (NMAH), under the Program in Latino History and Culture. Mayela’s internship involves researching the NMAH’s collections and interviewing curators in order to produce a series of podcasts on braceros and Spanish-Language television. Additionally, Mayela teaches museum visitors about Latin American food, culture, and migration through object-based and interactive learning by using the Immigration Cart on the museum floor.

Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, Mayela is pursuing a Ph.D. in History at the University of California, Riverside where she researches the representation of ethnicities and gender in film, popular and print culture. Mayela also holds a Master’s in History from California State University, San Marcos.
