Trashy Art?

The National Zoological Park (NZP) has always been a leading voice in the fight for endangered animals and maintaining habitats in the wild. As a part of NZP’s message of saving habitats, they have placed sculptures throughout the park that are made of plastic collected from our oceans. The project, Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, is meant to draw attention to the increasing pollution problem that is facing sea habitats around the world.

Haley Moen, a summer intern with The Smithsonian Associates (TSA), wrote an article about her thoughts on the each of the sculptures from a view of their beauty to their deeper call to save the oceans.
