The Smithsonian Media Global Business Development Internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about aspects of global business development focused on generating brand awareness overseas. This intern will be communicating with audiences via social media in Japanese to create awareness of the Smithsonian Media brands in Japan.
Overview
Through weekly scheduled and ad hoc/informal meetings with the mentor and members of the Global Business Development team, the Intern will have the opportunity to:
- Collaborate with the digital editorial team to curate content that will be of interest in Japan
- Generate brand awareness in Japan via various social media platforms
- Learn the process of editing and posting to social media
- Learn the analytical tools of social media platforms to optimize audience size and engagement
- Learn to use Campaign Monitor to generate monthly newsletters in both English and Japanese
- Utilize Japanese skills for translations as required
Through the experience, the intern will:
- Develop skills in building audiences via social media platforms
- Gain experience launching new social media products
- Garner valuable real-world web and digital work experience
- Learn business translation skills
Eligibility
The candidate has to be a degree-seeking graduate or undergraduate student or a recent graduate.
The candidate must be:
- Fluent in Japanese
- Familiar with Japanese social media platforms
- Knows Microsoft Office applications
Terms of Appointment
The minimum time commitment is 10 weeks and the internship is possible to be extended.
Location
The work location for the internship is either New York City or Washington DC, with a preference for NYC.
