Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) research associate Stefan Schnitzer has been studying how woody vines, or lianas, in tropical forests compete with canopy trees. Stefan has found that competition for water and sunlight between these two types of forest dwellers is not for the faint of heart!
