SERC Interns Julianne Rolf, Josie Whelan, and Addie Schlussel stuffed 15 mesh sacks with oyster shells

11 Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) interns recently competed in the Oyster Olympics hosted by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. The competition was held at Discovery Village in Shady Side, Md. where SERC interns shoveled, scooped, scraped, sweated, poured, piled, folded, clamped, ran, and acquired minor injuries competing against interns from other environmental organizations in the area.

Although they didn’t win, SERC interns had a fish-tastic time and plan on trying again next year!

You can read more about their experience on the SERC Shorlines blog here.
