Overview
Social media has become an ever-present part of the way we do business at the Smithsonian. The need for constant, engaging content streams has also become a reality. At present, SITES and Museum on Main Street maintain five Facebook pages, three Twitter accounts, two blogs, two YouTube Channels, one Tumblr feed, one Flickr page, Pinterest board, and Instagram account.
SITES seeks a social media-savvy intern who can create content for multiple channels and in a variety of forms.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Create content streams for specified traveling exhibitions, including but not limited to Titanoboa: Monster Snake, Searching for the Seventies: The Documerica Photography Project, Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation; What’s Up, Doc? The Animation Art of Chuck Jones; Patios, Pools, & The Invention of the American Backyard
- Brainstorm with current social media practitioner(s) about possible future campaigns
- Enter social content into management tool such as Hootsuite for review and publishing
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to distill information and maneuver in social media environments including Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram, Flickr, and Tumblr
- High accuracy in work and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively in social media with knowledge and understanding of platforms’ audiences
- Knowledge and interest in museums, non-profit arts, or community agencies
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or other photo editing tools
- Ability to work independently a must
- Digital photography skills a plus as well as knowledge of video editing software such as Final Cut Pro or Premiere Elements
