Greetings from Austin, Texas! My name is Faviola Castro-Jaimes and I am a senior at St. Edward’s University (the hilltop as we are know) where I am completing a Bachelor of Arts in History. I’ve had the enormous pleasure of working with the Smithsonian Office of Fellowships and Internships (OFI). How was this done all the way from ‘down yonder’ you may ask? Well I completed my internship here with the help of the U.S. Department of State Virtual Student Foreign Services (VSFS) program.

During my time with the OFI, I was able to learn many things including how to format a newsletter, how to effectively write blog posts, how to better present myself through email and most importantly I gained a deeper knowledge of working with a system such as WordPress. With this knowledge in tow, I was able to achieve many things, including the creation of my own website.

This internship has been such a great experience and although I would have loved to actually work in D.C., it was great being able to work from school or home and still know I was a part of the office. I would most definitely recommend the VSFS program to anyone looking for an internship from the comforts of home. My time with the OFI is coming to an end now, but I will forever remember the time I spent with them.
