The Office of International Relations (OIR) serves as the central point for analysis and coordination of all international activities at the Smithsonian Institution (SI). OIR leads institutional relationships with U.S. government and international organizations, including the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development, foreign embassies, and other governmental and private organizations in the U.S. and abroad.

OIR seeks interns with an interest in learning more about the Smithsonian’s international programs and initiatives to join our small, highly productive team of professionals. OIR is looking for advanced undergraduate and graduate-level interns to assist with the creation of a new database and website highlighting the wide array of Smithsonian activities across the globe. Successful applicants will have experience in international studies or affairs, qualitative analysis, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook), and excellent writing skills. Intern activities may include, but are not limited to:

- Gathering information for a database of SI international activities; improving and maintaining this database for internal use, public presentations and export to websites.

- Researching country-and region-specific Smithsonian projects and generating information sheets for use in internal and external briefings.

- Writing compelling stories about the impact of SI’s global work in conservation and cultural heritage preservation for a new website to spotlight Smithsonian in the world.

If you are an advanced undergraduate or graduate student interested in interning with the Office of International Relations please send your resume, a cover letter, and a two to five page writing sample to global@si.edu with subject line “Graduate Intern.” Applications must be submitted by December 31, 2014. Internships will begin in late January 2015.
