The Benefits of Being a Smithsonian Intern
Emma deVries is currently an intern at the National Museum of American History (NMAH). In a recent post on the museum’s blog, “O Say Can You See?”, deVries talks about her internship and five of the best perks she thinks that come along with it. She is an intern with some exhibition designers of the museum. These are the people that create the exhibits for the collections on display.
The first perk she mentions is that working behind the scenes at the museum helps you get a look everything it has to offer but from a different perspective. She also describes how she gets a first hand look at all the artifacts and collection items that are gong on display. Being a Smithsonian intern, you also get to go on field trips. DeVries talks about her trip to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Her last two perks are that she gets to work with many amazing employees of the institution and she also gets creative leeway when designing her own exhibit.
