Awe-inspiring Artists Awarded by the Smithsonian
Thirteen artists were recently awarded the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship (SARF). The artists are:
- Vivian Beer from Manchester, New Hampshire
- Annet Couwenberg from Baltimore
- Ken Gonzalez-Day from Los Angeles
- LaMont Hamilton from Chicago
- Muriel Hasbun from Silver Spring, Maryland
- Shana Lutker from Los Angeles
- Esperanza Mayobre from Brooklyn, New York
- Kenjiro Okazaki from Tokyo
- Amy O’Neill from New York City
- Damián Ortega from Mexico City
- Jaime Permuth from New York City
- Praneet Soi from Calcutta, India
- Edward Morris, Susannah Sayler, and Christina Seely (A U.S. based artist team)
Nominations for the fellowship came from international art curators, scholars and former SARF fellows, and awardees were then selected by a panel of Smithsonian art experts. The SARF fellowship program began in 2007 and allows artists from around the world to have access to Smithsonian collections, meet with Smithsonian scholars and conduct research that is essential to producing new work.
