National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) Andrew W. Mellon Conservation Internship Program

The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) is pleased to announce new internship opportunities in Conservation Studies funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This is open to students currently enrolled in, or recent graduates of a degree program at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and other institutions who have an evident interest in the conservation of African American heritage.

The conservation interns will be mentored and supervised by the Museum’s Conservator of Objects and will be located at one of several NMAAHC sites: the headquarters in Washington DC or the Pennsy Collections and Support Center in Landover, MD or the temporary Conservation Labs in Suitland, MD.

The Conservation Internship will consist of a sixteen week term, beginning from June 1, September 15, or January 15.

Deadlines for applications are as follows: February 15 for the Summer session to begin on June 1; July 15 for the Fall session to begin on September 15; and October 15 for the Spring Session to begin on January 15.
